McCartney earlier confirmed sessions with Adele producer Greg Kurstin. "I’d like that to be something I really love and then hopefully the fans will love it too," McCartney said. "I would like to achieve making that a really great album. Fingers crossed! That’s not what it’s called, but fingers crossed could be a title."

Despite a post-Beatles career that has produced 17 solo albums and a further seven with his band Wings, McCartney felt that his time as a musician was over when The Beatles split in 1970.
“I don’t know how anyone could have lived with me,” McCartney explains in the book, paying tribute to his first wife, Linda, who died in 1998. “I was on the scrap heap in my own eyes... It was a barrelling, empty feeling that just rolled across my soul.”

I thought it would be a very interesting idea for us to assume alter egos for this album we were about to make.
“So that’s what we did. And yeah, I started doing drawings of how the band might look. I sort of got this military look thing going and one of my ideas was that they were being presented by the Lord Mayor of some Northern town in a park.
When Lennon separated from Ono, it was McCartney who volunteered to play Cupid between them. When Harrison learnt that he had brain cancer, McCartney dropped everything to be with him. Stories abound of how McCartney would pay the hospital bills of friends' friends. And Lennon's mother-hen aunt Mimi, who had always looked down on McCartney for being from a bad neighbourhood, told Norman he was the only Beatle who kept in touch with her after Lennon's death.
