Mick Jagger 'speaks the Queen’s English' in private, but switch to 'Mockney' in public

Jagger secretly speaks the Queen's English in private but adopts a Mockney (Cockney) accent for his rock star persona, claims his children's former nanny.

“For decades, Jagger has spoken in the faux-Cockney accent known as ‘Mockney’ or ‘Estuary English.

Sally Arnold looked after Jade Jagger, who Rolling Stone Mick had with wife Bianca, from birth until she was five months old. Writing in her new memoir, Sally says: "Strangely, Mick spoke the Queen’s English in private and with only a couple of people around." (Mailonline/ Express reports)

“But the minute there were more or he was on the phone, he’d switch to the sort of Mockney accent we all know today.”

Sally wrote: “My impression was how normal Mick and Bianca seemed. He was very attentive, pouring tea, carrying and fetching things for her,” she says.

After working as a nanny for the Jaggers, Sally went onto become the tour manager for the Rolling Stones, The Who, Mike Oldfield and Peter Gabriel.

Mick’s accent came under the spotlight in Philip Norman’s 2012 biography.

It told how the star’s first serious girlfriend Chrissie Shrimpton assumed Mick’s Mockney accent came from his upbringing in Dartford, Kent — until she met his parents, and found they both spoke with Received Pronunciation.

Jade Jagger finds having famous parents a ''hindrance''.

The 51-year-old jewellery designer is the daughter of Rolling Stones rocker Mick Jagger and his ex-wife Bianca, and has said she often finds living in the spotlight to be a negative experience, because people make ''awful'' comments about her.

Asked if having famous parents spurred her on or was a hindrance, she said: ''I mean it is a hindrance, yesterday I was googling something and I found an awful, tragic piece about me in the newspaper from last year saying that 'she just can do whatever she wants' and it's very demoralising after you've worked all your life to try and achieve something.''

But Jade appreciates her parents' successful careers, as it has given her something to ''look up to'' and strive toward in her own life.

She added: ''But also, obviously, seeing what my family have done always makes you look up to something higher that is almost unachievable. I try to bring myself down from thinking that's my goal, because I think that can leave you with heartache, because I'm certainly not going to be jumping around on stage in the pouring rain ... I have my limits!''
