Neil Young has committed to avoiding ‘Platinum’ ticket sales for his future tours, after being inspired to do so by The Cure’s Robert Smith.
The tickets in question are used by sales outlets such as Ticketmaster as an attempt to put off touts and scalpers from buying up premium tickets and selling them for high profits on the secondary market.
Smith pointed out in an interview with The Times last year that he believed ‘Platinum’ tickets and the controversial dynamic pricing scheme were a “scam” that was “driven by greed”.
Now, Young has cited Smith’s comments on his Archives site, arguing that he believes ‘Platinum’ tickets are a “bad thing”, as they result in him taking too much money from his fans.
“My management and agent have always tried to cover my back on the road, getting me the best deals they could,” he wrote. “They have tried to protect me and the fans from scalpers who buy the best tickets and resell them at huge increases for their own profits”.
“Ticketmaster’s high priced Platinum tickets were introduced to the areas where scalpers were buying the most tickets for resale. The money went to me. That did not feel right. Very soon, Platinum tickets will no longer be available for my shows.”
“I have decided to let the people work this out,” he added. “Buy aggressively when the tickets come out or tickets will cost a lot more in a secondary market.”
A new concert film and soundtrack surrounding Neil Young's 2023 solo tour will arrive in the spring.
Coastal will screen in theaters for one night only on April 17, and the 11-track soundtrack album will arrive the next day.
The movie was directed by actress Daryl Hannah, Young's wife, from footage shot during the singer-songwriter's 2023 solo Coastal tour of the U.S., where he performed songs throughout his long career accompanied by guitar, piano and harmonica, UCR report.

The movie includes performances and backstage shots. Behind-the-scenes footage shows Young as he prepares for his first post-COVID tour. He performs several classic songs in the film, including early cuts such as "Expecting to Fly" and "I Am a Child" from his Buffalo Springfield days.
Other songs featured in the movie and soundtrack range from On the Beach's "Vampire Blues" and Comes a Time's title track to the more recent "Love Earth" from 2022's Crazy Horse collaboration World Record.
In January, Young released "Big Change," the first song by his new band, the Chrome Hearts. Earlier this week he announced a world tour with the group that starts on June 18 in Sweden and concludes in September with a concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Young also has the latest record in his "Archives" series being released on March 7. Oceanside Countryside was recorded in 1977 but has sat on the shelf since then. A different version of the lost LP surfaced on the Archives Vol. III box set in 2024.

For the first time in nearly two decades, Neil Young performed his song “Silver and Gold,” sharing it in a video for his fans on Instagram.
Written in the early Eighties, “Silver and Gold” has only been performed by Young a rare handful of times on tour. Even after the track was released on the visionary singer-songwriter’s 2000 album, also titled Silver and Gold, Young hasn’t delivered many live renditions of the song. This most recent performance is the first time he sang the song for an audience since 2007.
