The singers joined forces Thursday (Oct. 15) to release the song and video for their joint version of “Expectations,” a remix of the track that originally appears on Rodrigo’s Billboard 200-topping third album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. They 1980s-esque synth-pop anthem for setting high standards in the dating world was basically calling Roan’s name from the get-go, and her presence doubles the fun on the update.
“Expectations” marks a rare collaboration for Rodrigo, and the first for Roan, who’s never before appeared on another artist’s track or had a guest on one of her own albums. The “Drivers License” artist has previously only duetted with Robert Smith on an official release, partnering with him on “What’s Wrong With Me” from You Seem Pretty Sad.

The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column claims the remix will arrive on Friday (16.10.26).
The Good 4 U hitmaker and the Pink Pony Club singer are believed to have decided to collaborate together after hanging out at Olivia's Daisy Chain Fields festival this summer.
An insider told the publication: “Olivia and Chappell have been friends for a long time through producer and songwriter Dan Nigro, who has been a close collaborator of them both.
@livbedumb “expectations” feat @chappell roan song and video out Thursday!!!!!
“It’s been over a year since Chappell last released music because she’s been taking time away from the spotlight and has quietly been working on new tracks.
“But they reconnected in August at Olivia’s Daisy Chain Fields festival, which they both performed at, and they decided to work together. Chappell loves the message of the song and the version they’ve made together is magic.”
It was at Daisy Chain Fields that Chappel realised "how much" she "missed" performing.
The singer hadn’t performed live since May, and her comeback at the all-women festival clearly reignited something. Posting on Instagram after the show, she thanked Olivia for inviting her and praised her for using her platform “for good”.
