The podcaster made the remarks after Rodrigo took to social media to weigh in on the Cornell University gang rape allegations on Sunday, and voice her support for Jane Doe, the anonymous former female student who filed a civil lawsuit.
In Monday's episode of The Megyn Kelly Show podcast, the former Fox News anchor berated Rodrigo for her Instagram Story post.
"Olivia, in sum, you don't know what the f**k you're talking about. Shut up and stick to singing," Kelly claimed.
"I liked you better when you were in front of a microphone singing your weird little depressing songs."
The journalist continued to criticise the 23-year-old singer for publicly sharing her views, branding her a "know-nothing moron".
"It's better to keep your mouth shut and let people suspect you're an idiot than to open it and prove them right. Ever hear that saying? It applies to you, sweetheart," Kelly added."We don't need the participation of know-nothing morons who have been auto-tuned into fame and suddenly think they have something profound to say on the culture wars."
In an interview for The Hollywood Reporter published on Wednesday, the Drop Dead singer revealed she was single despite being linked to private equity associate Julian Croonenberghs over the summer.
Accordingly, Olivia admitted that it was difficult to get to know someone when in the public eye.
"It's so hard and kind of sad, especially because relationships are supposed to be something private," she told the publication. "I feel like every time I go on a casual date with a guy, there's a picture of it on the internet, which feels really invasive. Sometimes you're out with a guy who's not your boyfriend, and suddenly the internet's like, 'They're married, blah blah blah.'"
