The video features Rodrigo, Nixon, and SNL cast member Ben Marshall (who is also part of the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy). It starts with Rodrigo cleaning up after an all-night rager, stepping over Marshall as he lies passed on the floor. She envisions him bringing her home to his family during the holidays and plays out some scenarios that are very The Family Stone-inspired. Nixon takes on the role of her welcoming future-in-law as Rodrigo bonds with the family, joins in on charades, makes gingerbread houses, and helps carve out a Christmas bird.
“Take Me Home (4 Christmas)” was written with Rodrigo’s frequent collaborators Dan Nigro and Amy Allen and was produced by Nigro. Also launching alongside the single and music video are a 7-inch vinyl and cassette that can be pre-ordered now on Target’s website or found in store on Friday.
The holiday song comes hot on the heels of Rodrigo’s “Expectations” remix featuring Chappell Roan, which released on Oct. 15 alongside a music video featuring the singers alongside Talking Heads frontman David Byrne as a zany game-show host.
Variety has also revealed that Rodrigo will be celebrated at its 10th annual Hitmakers event in Los Angeles this December, where she will receive the Songwriter of the Year Award. Other honorees include Sienna Spiro, who is getting the Visionary Voice Award, and Katseye, which has been named Group of the Year. More guests will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
Rodrigo has had a banner year, releasing her third album — “You Look Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love” — in June and holding the first annual Daisy Chains Festival, which raised over $20 million for nonprofit organizations dedicated to furthering women’s rights. She is currently on her “Unraveled” world tour, which runs through May 2027.
