Sabbath - The rocker previously surprised fans by revealing he was glad to call it quits with Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler because the group’s reunion wasn’t exactly a blast – and it became too much like hard work for the singer.
“With Sabbath, all I am is a singer with a band… It’s not allowed to have f**king fun with Sabbath,” he tells Rolling Stone. “It’s too serious. Tony was trying to have a go at me, saying, ‘Don’t f**king talk over my solos’. I go, ‘OK, are you sure ’cause most of the f**king song is solos (sic). The intro to the song is f**kin’ five minutes and then I sing for about two seconds and then it’s another one’.
“With my own thing, I’m looking to have fun, and that’s what music’s about for me. I’m not a serious f**king singer. I’m just a frontman who’s trying to get the crowd going.”
Ozzy’s comments echo those he made in a Philadelphia Inquirer interview back in September, when he first revealed he didn’t have a good time on the road with Black Sabbath as the band played their final shows in 2016 and 2017.
“I was getting bad vibes from them (bandmates) for being Ozzy,” he explained. “I don’t know what the f**k else can I be?”
Sabbath guitarist Iommi responded by insisting he had no idea his bandmate was so unhappy: “Ozzy never mentioned anything to me. He seemed to enjoy it and we had a laugh, so I don’t know.”
Ozzy has since embarked on a solo farewell tour, insisting he won’t tour the world again once the trek is over.
“What I’m stopping is doing what I’m doing now – going around the world all the time. I wish people would understand I’m not retiring… I’ve got grandchildren that I want to spend time with.”
Recently Ozzy Osbourne “could have died” if he didn’t undergo emergency surgery to treat a staph infection.
The 69-year-old rocker scrapped four concerts on his No More Tours 2 trek after he was hospitalised with a hang nail that sparked a major infection. Opening up for the first time about the health issue, Ozzy told Rolling Stone magazine that he was diagnosed with a potentially deadly staph infection after going to the emergency room when his thumb swelled to the “size of a f**king lightbulb”.
“I didn’t feel sick, so I was cracking jokes,” the Black Sabbath star recalled. “The doctor said, ‘I don’t know if you realise, Mr. Osbourne, this is a very serious problem you have.’ (Wife) Sharon said, ‘Would you stop f**king making jokes?’ So I said, ‘Well, it’s my hand’.
“They’re all extremely, deadly serious about it. I judge it based on the expression and the body language of the doctor. If he comes in with a really solemn face, I go, ‘Oh, OK. My time to go is up.'”
