Sir Paul McCartney has secured a record 24th number one album after his latest release debuted at the top spot in the UK official album charts, according to the Official Charts Company.
The former Beatles star has continued his record as the most successful albums act with his new record, The Boys Of Dungeon Lane, landing him a total of 24 chart-topping releases in his career. The haul includes six number one albums as a solo artist.
Sir Paul’s latest release comes more than six decades since he first topped the charts with the Beatles debut album, Please Please Me, which came out in 1963.
He has scored 15 number ones as a member of the Beatles, two with Wings, one alongside then-wife Linda McCartney, making him the most prolific albums chart-topper in history.
The Beatle has done an amazing press tour the last two weeks promoting his new album, “The Boys of Dungeon Lane.” The reviews are stellar, and the result is big sales right away. (Kudos to his PR people.)
So far, no singles have popped up on iTunes. McCartney was never good with singles. In the Wings days, he released one per album, leaving a lot of chart action on the table.

Released on May 29, The Boys Of Dungeon Lane finds McCartney looking back on his life, drawing from eight decades of personal stories stretching back to his childhood growing up in Liverpool, and pouring them into a set of songs that make up what might be his best album of the past 20 years.
Produced by Andrew Watt, who helmed both The Rolling Stones’ Hackney Diamonds and their forthcoming Foreign Tongues, songs such as Life Can Be Hard and bittersweet lead single Days We Left Behind hark back both to events in McCartney’s past and the vintage sound of classic Beatles, Wings, and McCartney solo records, while resisting being tied too closely to his musical legacy.
“If you’re working with the Stones, they’ve got the Stones sound. It’s kind of the opposite with me - we’re trying not to do that,” McCartney explains to MOJO’s Grayson Haver Currin. “The way we approached this album was: We’ve done that before. Let’s do it different.”
McCartney first met Watt in 2021, shortly after the producer had won that year’s Producer Of The Year Grammy for his work with Ozzy Osbourne, Miley Cyrus and Post Malone.
