Paul McCartney: "I Have Several Songs for Kids That Haven’t Been Released, I’ve Never Fully Grown Up"

Paul McCartney said he’s made up several songs for his kids that he’s never released. He loved coming up with the tunes, and it made his children’s childhoods special. That’s a perk of having a musician as a father.

In The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, Paul wrote that after the break up of The Beatles, he would often sit around a lot. Most times, Paul sat in the kitchen and wrote songs while his kids played or did their homework.

One day, while watching the kids, he came across the chords for his song “Great Day,” which made him feel optimistic about his post-Beatles days.

Paul made up several fun little songs for his kids.

“You’re just not sitting there always trying to be too meaningful,” Paul wrote. “I used to do these little songs just to amuse the kids. But the truth is I still write for kids. Maybe it means I’ve never fully grown up, but I’ve got one that’s called ‘The Bouncy Song,’ and one, I confess, called ‘Running Around the Room,’ which is another family classic.”

There’s another song that goes, “Fishes, fishes, fishes swimming in the sea.’ He added, “There are quite a few of them from when the kids were growing up – songs I didn’t release".

The Beatles Also Used Pseudonyms on Records-

Having one of the Beatles on your album was certainly a feather in a musician’s cap, but Capitol/EMI wanted to keep all the feathers for themselves.
So if any of the Beatles wanted to record outside the band, they resorted to pen names, or “noms de rock,” if you must. Most often it’s due to the famous “contractual obligations.

John Lennon, whose love of wordplay is well documented, reveled in coming up with new names to use in credits not only on outside projects, but on his own records; according the Guinness Book of World Records, John remains the proud possessor of the record for having the most pseudonyms. (Although, to be fair, most of them were anagrams of his name or variations on Dr. Winston O’Boogie.)

Every fan of The Beatles agrees that it’s hard to pick a favourite song. But this hasn’t stopped Paul McCartney from being asked numerous times which one he would pick.

“People are only just discovering the B-sides of Beatles singles,” he said at the time, adding: “They’re only just discovering things like ‘You Know My Name’ – probably my favourite Beatles track! Just because it’s so insane.”

What would you do if a guy like John Lennon turned up at the studio and said, ‘I’ve got a new song.’ I said, ‘What’s the words?’ and he replied, ‘You know my name, look up the number.’ I asked, ‘What’s the rest of it?’ 'No. No other words, those are the words. And I wanna do it like a mantra.’

He continued: "We did it over a period of maybe two or three years. We started off and we just did 20 minutes, and we tried it again and it didn’t work. We tried it again, and we had these endless, crazy fun sessions.

“Eventually, we pulled it all together. it was just so hilarious to put that record together. It’s not a great melody or anything, it’s just unique. Some people haven’t discovered that song yet.”
