By editorial board on January 30, 2024

The Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention: Tom Petty Among the Wildflowers, featuring artifacts previously on display at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.

Tom Petty: Among the Wildflowers will be on display in the museum  until January 31, 2024,

The exhibit is divided into three segments of artifacts that correspond to a unique aspect of the Wildflowers creative process: songwriting, recording, and reception and delivery.

The exhibit is made possible with generous contributions from the Tom Petty Estate and individual bandmembers involved in the Wildflowers recording process including Mike Campbell, Stephen Ferrone, and Howie Epstein. Visitors can discover the many artifacts that tell the album’s story, such as the original guitar and outfit featured in Tom Petty’s 1995 Rolling Stone Magazine cover.

"The Petty Legacy is committed to investing in the new artists, creators, and inventors that will come out of Gainesville. The Cade Museum is a beacon for this. Our dad was such an unassuming and wonderful man like the late Dr. Cade I know he would be humbled by this honor.

The legacy of the Cade Museum uplifts and facilitates this spirit of invention and discovery. We could not be more thrilled that this important exhibition will travel from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to our dad’s hometown in Central Florida. We hope it inspires people to dig deep, dream and express themselves. We are forever grateful to Phoebe Miles for making this exhibition possible."

Adria Petty, Tom Petty’s daughter, Executive Producer of the documentary, and manager of the Tom Petty Estate, about the new exhibit.
In 2010, Tom Petty said, “With this album, I want to show other people what I hear with the band.

Earlier this year Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Blake Shelton and Matt Sorum have released a video for their cover of Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down," a charity single released in support of Afghan girls.

Shelton handles vocals on the track, with the country superstar delivering a distinctive twang to Petty’s famous lyrics. Walsh handles the song’s guitar part, including a typically rousing solo midway through the track. Meanwhile, Sorum and Schmit serve as the rhythm section, providing a study foundation for the cover’s touching tones.

The rendition was recorded to support The Miraculous Love Kids, a non-profit organization founded by American musician Lanny Cordola. The group’s mission is “to teach the guitar to war-torn, poverty-stricken children, in particular young girls who have little to no rights and are often forced into marriage and face the most extreme forms of violence.”
