Stevie Nicks has once again shed light on the possibility of a Fleetwood Mac reunion after Christine McVie‘s death.
After the untimely passing of Christine McVie in late November 2022 following a “short illness”, uncertainty had been cast on the future of Fleetwood Mac. In February last year, Mick Fleetwood said “the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris”, effectively ruling out a return for the band.
In October, Stevie Nicks echoed those sentiments, revealing that she thought “there’s no reason” to get the band back together without McVie. And now, Nicks has once again cemented her thoughts on the matter.
In a new chat with Mojo, Stevie Nicks emphatically shut down talks of a Fleetwood Mac reunion without McVie: “Without Christine, no can do. There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work.”
Her comments came after she had reflected on McVie’s final days, saying she had gotten a call from McVie’s family after the singer had suffered a stroke. Nicks had planned to rent a plane and fly down to visit McVie immediately, but was told not to, as her family didn’t know if Christine would survive that long. Nicks confirmed that McVie died the following day.
“I wanted to go there and sit on her bed and sing to her – which definitely would have made her pass away faster. But I needed to be with her. And I didn’t get to do that. So that was very hard for me. I didn’t get to say goodbye.”

After decades of performing with the band, one of Fleetwood Mac’s two female members, Christine McVie, decided to retire. Though she eventually returned after a 16-year hiatus, her exit initially seemed permanent. Her bandmate and close friend Stevie Nicks explained that she was completely supportive of McVie’s decision, even though she was relieved when the lengthy hiatus ended.
After McVie helped welcome Nicks into Fleetwood Mac, the two became fast friends. They stuck together, particularly when the band dynamic soured after both woman’s breakups. They helped each other navigate the primarily male-dominated world of rock and roll.
“Christine [McVie] and I were a force of nature,” Nicks told NME. “In the first two months I was in the band, Chris and I made a pact that we would never be in a room full of famous English or American guitar players and be treated like second class citizens.”
