It’s a brand new cut from one of the biggest bands of all time. “Now and Then” by The Beatles comes in at No. 1 on the decade-spanning ranking.
The tune has sold 35,000 copies on vinyl alone since it was released, according to the Official Charts Company. Impressively, when it arrived in late 2023, it moved more than 19,000 copies on wax in just its initial tracking frame. That means well over half of its total sales to date were earned in a single week.
The Beatles Reunited (Sort Of) for “Now and Then”
“Now and Then” was unveiled in November 2023 and billed as The Beatles’ final single. The track was created using old recordings from John Lennon and George Harrison, and thanks to modern artificial intelligence technology, surviving members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were able to add their contributions and complete the cut. The end result was a new Beatles song, decades after the group had disbanded.

Rob Frith, owner of Vancouver’s Neptoon Records threw on an old tape lying around the store labelled ‘Beatles 60s Demos’, thinking it was just a bootleg, NME report.
After listening to the tape, and posting a snippet of it onto social media, he discovered that the tape in his possession was a rare, direct copy of an early audition tape by the Beatles.
He wrote on his initial post on social media: “I picked up this tape years ago that said Beatles Demos on it. I just figured it was a tape off a bootleg record. After hearing it last night for the first time, it sounds like a master tape. The quality is unreal. How is this even possible to have, what sounds like a Beatles 15 song Decca tapes master?”

Speaking to CBC about his discovery, Frith shared that he “thought it was just a reel-to-reel tape that somebody had put bootleg things on,” but quickly realised after talking to a couple of fans and doing research that the tape was the real deal. “It seemed like the Beatles were in the room,” he said of its quality.
The audition tape was recorded on January 1, 1962 with Decca Studios in London, but Decca ultimate passed on signing The Beatles. This took place when the band was still with their original drummer Pete Best. The band would then go on to sign with Parlophone Records and release ‘Please Please Me’.
