Jack White and Jack Black were the musical guest and host on this week’s Saturday Night Live, which aired on April 4. The episode, which followed a brief hiatus, saw White and Black celebrate their sixth time playing and fifth hosting the show, respectively: an occasion that could only be marked with a choir-backed rendition of the White Stripes classic “Seven Nation Army.” (Pitchfork report)
Black and White’s first collaboration came early in the episode, during Black’s monologue. Joined by fellow five-timers Jonah Hill, Tina Fey (who hosted the premiere of SNL UK earlier this year), Candice Bergen, and Melissa McCarthy, Black tries to spiff up the deteriorating and cobweb-covered Five-Timers lounge. After White appears with a literal bang, knocking Domingo (Marcello Hernandez) over the head with a frying pan, the Jacs decide that the only way to fix the lounge is with, in Black’s words, “the world’s most rockin’ song:” “Seven Nation Army.”
