The comeback: celebrities wearing the Slip Dress

Lingerie as outerwear?  It may sound like something we left behind in the 90s, but the slip dress is coming back with full force

 

As part of the underwear-as-outerwear trend, when they were made from layered chiffon, polyester satins and charmeuse, and often trimmed with lace. The slip dress looked like an undergarment, but was intended to be seen, and through the use of lace and sheer elements, offer glimpses of the body beneath.

From the runways of New York and Paris to the red carpet and magazines, the slip dress trend is here to stay. So what exactly is a slip dress? In general, it 2is a lightweight design usually made of a silk-like material with thin, spaghetti straps.

The classic slip dress has long been a go-to for celebrities, both on and off the red carpet. It’s also conveniently the perfect basic heading into autumn – pair it with a denim or leather jacket and voila, you’re set for the season (dress it down with boots, or add a pair of heels for the perfect party look)

Of course there’s many variations–from an evening wear gown embellished with sparkling beads to a minimal silhouette with a short hemline. No matter the style, the slip dress has made its way from bedroom to red carpet in the past few years. Looking to wear the slip dress yourself?
