On Thursday 2 July at 8pm, Pete Townshend will appear on the stage at the Opera Holland Park theatre for an exclusive conversation with broadcaster and author Simon Mayo.
Across an extraordinary career spanning more than six decades, Townshend has helped shape the course of modern music, writing some of the most influential songs in rock history and redefining what popular music could be. This unique event offers audiences the opportunity to hear first-hand reflections on his life, work and legacy, from the explosion of British pop music in the 1960s through to the present day.
In conversation with Simon Mayo, Townshend will discuss the past, present and future of a remarkable artistic career, sharing stories from the centre of one of the most transformative periods in music history.

Pete Townshend hints at future music from The Who as Roger Daltrey announces solo tour
“We are always trying to come up with SOMETHING special… hoping one day we can astound you the way we used to”.
Rumours of new music from the rock giants follow on from the guitarist recently signing a deal with Primary Wave, an agreement that will see them work together on “the exploitation of his name, image, and likeness and the development and exploitation of future creative projects”
Outlets including Variety have speculated that the deal involved a nine-figure sum, and Primary Wave have said they believe the potential when it comes to “branding and content opportunities” is “boundless”.
They also added that they are working with the guitarist to “establish a footprint across social media channels”, and Townshend has said that the deal is both “a joy for me” and will help him move “forward with my creative and performative work”.
Townshend recently posted a new message on his Instagram page showing a new “writing studio” in London he purchased that was built by British pop star Rick Astley. In the comments section of the page, a fan remarked, “There’s no way you’re gonna do another Who album.”
This prompted the following response from Townshend: “You might be wrong. Roger wants to give it a try.”
Pete also replied to fans’ comments about the equipment he has in the studio.
A couple of other well-known artists shared messages on Townshend’s Instagram post. Graham Nash wrote, “Quite the setup!” Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney offered, “You are really not only the greatest rhythm guitarist you are also the funniest one.”
The WHO album was released in December 2019. It peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and No. 3 on the U.K. albums chart.
