Chris Martin reveals how actor Michael J. Fox helped form band.

“With his Chuck Berry riff and the way he punched Biff: ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Michael J. Fox."

Back to the Future star Michael J. Fox joined Coldplay to perform on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury as frontman Chris Martin thanked the actor for helping to form the band.

The actor, who has Parkinson’s disease and uses a wheelchair, arrived on stage to a delighted crowd on Saturday (29 June) as he played the guitar with Coldplay.

The lead singer thanked Fox as he told the crowd: "Thank you so much everybody and especially thank you to the main reason we are a band is watching Back to the Future. Thank you to our hero forever, Michael J.Fox.”

The actor joined the band on guitar for songs including “Humankind” from 2021's Music of the Spheres and X&Y hit “Fix You.” Fox, who has been battling Parkinson's disease since 1991, performed from a wheelchair during the set. Earlier in the night, the band also brought out surprise guest Little Simz.

The drone show is just one of the few new additions to this year’s festival, as it usually opens with a traditional fireworks display which occurs roughly around 11pm on the opening day of Glastonbury for early arrivals. Fans typically gather around on the legendary hill by the park stage to catch a view of the light show.

For the opening show, Glastonbury enlisted 576 drones – per the BBC – for a stunning display above the festival grounds. The drones first took on the shape of the festival’s old logo, which sees three people with their arms interlinked. It then transformed into a phoenix, before turning into a depiction of the iconic Pyramid Stage, the Glastonbury name and a peace sign among others.

Above, you can check out footage and pictures of the drone show and fireworks display from fans on the hallowed Worthy Farm grounds.
