Sanders' and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's anti-oligarchy event also saw Baez cover John Lennon's 'Imagine' and Bob Dylan's 'Don’t Think Twice, It's All Right'.
Neil Young served as the rally’s final performer, beginning his two-song set with his 2019 song ‘Rainbow of Colours’.
“Welcome to Berniechella,” Maggie Rogers told a crowd of an estimated 36,000 people as she took to the stage at Gloria Molina Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon.
“We are going to make our revolution with joy,” Sanders told the crowd as he thanked the musicians who played before his speech. “We’re going to sing and dance our way to victory against hatred and divisiveness.”
“We are in a moment of extraordinary danger,” Sanders told the crowd, further stating that the Trump administration is “moving us into an authoritarian form of society.”
In explaining the purpose for the tour, Sanders said, “The American people, whether they are Democrats, Republicans or Independents, do not want billionaires to control our government or buy our elections. They do not want Republicans to decimate Social Security and the Veterans Administration. They do not want huge tax breaks for the wealthiest people in the country paid for by massive cuts to Medicaid and other programs that working families rely on. That is why I will be visiting Republican-held districts all over the Western United States. When we are organized and fight back, we can defeat oligarchy.”
