Paul McCartney has come up with a thrifty way to make his own guitar picks as he was spotted creating DIY plectrums by flattening coins on a railway track.
The 79-year-old (next June 19th), musician was pictured placing a dozen one-cent coins on the Long Island Rail Road in New York’s Hamptons. After a train ran across the track and flattened the change, he was seen collecting the pennies before returning to his home nearby.
“I used very flexible picks because I thought it was useful for gaining speed,” explained May: “But gradually I found that I wanted more and more hardness in the pick, and the stiffer it is, the more you feel what is happening to the string between your fingers. . So in the end, I took a coin and it was just perfect. This is all I needed ”. He added: "I changed the way I held the pick, by folding one of my fingers around it, and I never came back."
"It's tough enough to give you just the right contact, and it's also soft enough not to break your steel strings because it's made of nickel silver. And it has this nice serrated edge, and at a certain angle to the strings, you get a snappy effect. . To me, the guitar is like a voice, and that effect is one of the consonants that helps make the guitar speak ”.
