Paul McCartney has opened up on John Lennon’s departure from The Beatles – and how he never believed that Yoko Ono was to blame according with NME.

The Beatles icon, who clashed with Lennon after he left the iconic group in 1969, recalled the moment he told the rest of the band that he had decided to call it a day.

“There was a meeting where John came in and said, ‘I’m leaving the group.’ And looking back on it, he’d reached that stage in his life. We all had”, McCartney told Howard Stern in a new SiriusXM interview.

“Even though we thought she was intrusive because she used to sit in on the recording sessions and we’d never had anything like that. But looking back on it, you think, ‘The guy was totally in love with her. And you’ve just got to respect that.’ So we did. And I do”, he admitted.

The exact location of the concert hasn’t been revealed. The event takes place on Egypt Station‘s release date.

He has been doing a series of very private, yet high profile, concerts for fans this summer as he promotes the release of his upcoming studio album, Egypt Station. Following memorable concerts at Liverpool’s Cavern Club and at London’s Abbey Road Studios in July, McCartney announced the sweepstakes for 150 fans.

Paul McCartney’s private concert in New York City this Friday, September 7,will be streamed. The star announced on Wednesday (September 5) that the performance of songs from his new Egypt Station album, as well as classics from the Beatles, Wings and his solo catalog, will stream live at 8 p.m. ET on the star’s YouTube channel.
